Solar Power Indonesia (SPI) is proud to have played a role in the development of the Nusa Penida 100% Renewable Energy Roadmap, an ambitious initiative aimed at powering the Indonesian island with 100% renewable energy. This ground-breaking project has the potential to not only reduce the island’s carbon footprint but also serve as a model for sustainable energy development in Indonesia.
The objective of the project is to develop a comprehensive strategy for Nusa Penida to transition to a renewable energy-based power system. The roadmap outlines a detailed plan to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030, making Nusa Penida a zero-emission island.

The SPI scope for this project involved a range of activities, including:

  • Feasibility Analysis and recommended options
  • Preliminary/Concept Engineering Design
  • Administrative and Technical Support for PLN Approval process
  • Detailed Engineering Design
  • HomerPro Training

Our team of experts conducted a thorough analysis of the island’s energy requirements and renewable energy resources. We used optimization modelling to identify the most suitable power system configuration, taking into account the island’s energy demands and available renewable energy resources.

The project’s key outcomes include:

  • A comprehensive roadmap for a transition to 100% renewable energy
  • A conceptual engineering design for the island’s power system, including renewable energy resource assessment, technology options, and topology options
  • A feasibility analysis and recommended options for power system optimization
  • HomerPro training for the project team

The Nusa Penida 100% Renewable Energy Roadmap has the potential to:

  • Reduce the island’s carbon footprint and contribute to Indonesia’s net-zero emission goals
  • Serve as a model for sustainable energy development in Indonesia
  • Provide energy security and reliability to the island’s residents and businesses
  • Support the development of local economies and communities

SPI is proud to have played a role in this valuable sustainability initiative and looks forward to seeing the project evolve from modelling into action.
